Why Does an Audi Change Gears Differently in Different Driving Situations? (7 อ่าน)

I have been paying more attention to how my Audi drives lately, and something has been bothering me out of curiosity more than anything else. The car can feel completely different depending on how I use the accelerator, and I am trying to understand what is actually happening inside the transmission when that happens. If I drive gently through town, the gears seem to change very quietly and early, but if I press the accelerator more firmly, the car holds a gear longer and the engine revs higher before shifting. Is the transmission simply reacting to my driving style, or are there several other things happening in the background? I started looking into this breakdown of Audi transmission mechanics because I wanted a basic explanation without getting lost in complicated workshop terminology. What I found interesting is that a transmission is not just a collection of gears changing automatically. There are different components and electronic controls working together to decide when and how a gear change should happen, and that made me wonder how much the driver is actually influencing the process without realizing it. For example, does the transmission consider vehicle speed, engine speed, throttle position, braking, road conditions, or even whether the car is going uphill? I sometimes notice that the car behaves differently when climbing a slope compared with driving on a flat road. It may hold a lower gear for longer, which makes sense, but I would like to understand how the system knows that extra power is needed. Another thing I have noticed is that traffic can make the transmission feel different. When I am moving slowly, stopping, and starting repeatedly, the car may seem more active with its gear changes. Is that normal behavior, or is it something that should be checked if it becomes more noticeable over time? I am also curious about what happens when using different driving modes. On cars with comfort, dynamic, or similar settings, does changing the mode actually change the transmission's shift strategy, or is most of the difference coming from the engine and throttle response? I have heard people say that a sporty mode can make the car hold gears longer, but I have never really understood what the transmission is doing differently. Another question is about manual shifting through paddles. When the driver asks for a specific gear, how much control does the driver really have? Does the system still prevent a shift if it thinks the requested gear could damage the transmission or engine? I am asking because I want to understand the normal behavior of the car rather than become worried every time the shift pattern changes. If the transmission is designed to adapt to different conditions, then some variation should probably be expected. At the same time, I imagine there are certain changes that should not be ignored, such as repeated hesitation, harsh engagement, slipping, unusual noises, or a sudden change in how the car responds. For those who understand Audi transmissions ***ter than I do, what is actually happening during a normal gear change, and which parts of the process are controlled electronically? Is there an easy way for an everyday driver to understand the basics without getting into advanced mechanical theory? I would really like to hear how other owners learned to recognize what their transmission is doing and what signs made them realize something needed professional attention.
